 "Great phone, recommended" 2009-04-07
By N. Lees (London, UK)
This is a good phone. I regularly change my phones but I've kept hold of this as I like it so much. I've owned a couple of Nokia E series and I would say it may not look as sexy being all plastic, but functionally it is far superior. For a start, bieng a Blackberry it does push email effortlessly so new email is in your inbox on your phone in seconds after it has been sent from a computer. The Nokias etc don't support this, they use POP3/IMAP etc which is slower and a less elegant way of retrieving mail. I think the plastic build is actually a good thing as it makes this phone so small, light and pocketable unlike some of the others which are quite heavy. If you're new to Blackberry the menu system may take a while to get used to, but it isn't user-unfriendly by any means. Browising internet is good enough if you really want to do that on a phone anyway, camera is better than expected with flash, battery life good, call quality good. My recommendation would be don't bother with the GPS version (8110); the GPS takes a while to get connected and going; go for the WiFi version (8120).

"Blackberry at a reasonable size!" 2009-01-29

It is like all the Pearl range, updated from the previous model.

Not as easy as a normal Mobile, but the same as a previous Blackberry, I disagree with other person does not look cheap and tacky, professional look and feel to it

If you want a Blackberry that is smaller that the full keyboard models then choose the Pearl range

NOTE: Read the Sellers comments before buying, (1) You only get a back up guarantee if it is a UK model, many import from Europe, India etc, as they are cheaper there, but if it goes wrong you can only go back to the seller not maker, so choose cheaper at your peril! (2) as this should be black, 1 was selling silver, naughty person, check the colour, if it doesn't say different I'm sure it would be black (There is a silver and pink version of this phone)

Great product, does everything required although it does take a while to get used to the keyboard

The BlackBerry Pearl 8110 is a lightweight handset. Unfortunately it looks and feels cheap and tacky, and for such a handset I'd expect better build quality.

The camera is very good, and camera controls are better than those on other handsets. If you want to use this phone for texting, composing replies with the QWERTY keyboard may be quicker once you've got used to it, but functions such as sending your reply aren't a one button click option like on most other handsets. This can prove to be fiddly and makes life with this handset much more difficult than it need be.

For push e-mail it's great, but unfortunately most people requiring these functions are those who are in business which uses something like Microsoft Exchange for e-mail.

For your typical personal user, this handset is overly-complicated. I also had issues in that the handset would not synchronise with either Windows Vista, XP, or Mac OS X 10.5, and I am far from a technophobe (in fact, I have a very technical background)! I find the Symbian OS far more user friendly and far less sluggish than the BlackBerry, and would suggest for most users that a Nokia N-Series would make a far better all-round handset than a BlackBerry.

Unfortunately my poor experience with this BlackBerry has put me off, to the point where I certainly wouldn't recommend it. This model really does look and feel cheap, and it has too few redeeming features to make it worthwhile owning. Save your money and buy a Nokia N-Series instead (or one of their E phones if you desperately want the BlackBerry e-mail compatibility)!
